He is so Good to Us

He is so Good to Us

by Trent Brown

Reflecting on Isaiah 12 helps us, as God’s people, to rejoice in His salvation, preservation, and restoration. This beautiful snippet of Scripture is one of praise that centers on the goodness of God. We see that He is our salvation, our comforter, our strength, and our song. We also see that He dwells among us and does glorious deeds.

I am so thankful that the Lord is good to me. I am reminded daily of His goodness as He sees fit to comfort me in all of the chaos and confusion that often surrounds me. The words of an old Third Day song are on my lips this morning. The song simply says,

You are so good to me
You heal my broken heart
You are my Father in Heaven

You poured out all Your blood
You died upon the cross
You are my Jesus who loves me

You are beautiful my sweet, sweet song
You are beautiful my sweet, sweet song
You are beautiful my sweet, sweet song
And I will sing again

You are my strong melody
You are my dancing rhythm
You are my perfect rhyme
And I will sing of You forever

The fact that He dwells with us helps us to hold onto the beauty and goodness of who HE is. It speaks of His manifestation of Himself to His people by taking on flesh. Not only did He become man, He also rectified the obstacle of fellowship between a Holy God and mankind. He became the propitiation or payment for God’s wrath and brought about favor instead.

It is also a beautiful picture of His grace. It speaks specifically of the fact that He is angry at sin, yet turns His anger away in order to comfort us in our afflictions. His actions are evidence of His character and knowing how and why He works informs how we worship. It helps us give thanks for all He has done for us individually as well as proclaiming His salvation among the nations

He is so good to us! May we live our lives full of joy because of what He has done for us. May our lives be full of these expressions of joy as we sing, shout, and declare His goodness to those that we come in contact with.

Christ's Musical
April 27th, 2026
I love musicals. They tell real-life stories, yet through song, those stories become magical. Specifically, when a musical sings about love, the whole story becomes mythicized. Take “Summer Nights” from Grease: the story is realistic. Two teenagers meet and have a summer fling. But when it is sung in a musical number, the simple love story becomes a fantasy.Song of Solomon is a musical. It tells t...
A Brief Lesson in Confession
April 20th, 2026
As we read Psalm 32 this week, to see confession and forgiveness in action, I thought it would be helpful to do a brief lesson on confession using Martin Luther’s A Brief Exhortation to Confession. The version I will be using is from a Reader’s Edition of the Book of Concord, the statement of faith of the Lutheran Church. We could compare it to our Baptist Faith and Message 2000, but much larger. ...
Don't Be Afraid. God is With You.
April 13th, 2026
Whether you’re following news stories or just going through your daily life, it seems there are plenty of scary things happening. If I’m completely honest, there are many things that scare me. You might feel the same way. It would be easy to let fear overtake us, paralyzing us or causing us to make bad decisions. But facing fear is not a new problem. In the Bible, we learn that even David faced sc...

When the Word Dwells Richly in Us
March 30th, 2026
Early in Colossians 3, Paul is addressing those who have been united with Christ. He begins by  specifically speaking about their identity in the sense that they have died and their lives are hidden in Christ. Because of this identity, we are called to put on compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. These very things flow from The Word of Christ dwelling in us.This transformation be...
