He is so Good to Us
by Trent Brown

Reflecting on Isaiah 12 helps us, as God’s people, to rejoice in His salvation, preservation, and restoration. This beautiful snippet of Scripture is one of praise that centers on the goodness of God. We see that He is our salvation, our comforter, our strength, and our song. We also see that He dwells among us and does glorious deeds.
I am so thankful that the Lord is good to me. I am reminded daily of His goodness as He sees fit to comfort me in all of the chaos and confusion that often surrounds me. The words of an old Third Day song are on my lips this morning. The song simply says,
You are so good to me
You heal my broken heart
You are my Father in Heaven
You poured out all Your blood
You died upon the cross
You are my Jesus who loves me
You are beautiful my sweet, sweet song
You are beautiful my sweet, sweet song
You are beautiful my sweet, sweet song
And I will sing again
You are my strong melody
You are my dancing rhythm
You are my perfect rhyme
And I will sing of You forever
The fact that He dwells with us helps us to hold onto the beauty and goodness of who HE is. It speaks of His manifestation of Himself to His people by taking on flesh. Not only did He become man, He also rectified the obstacle of fellowship between a Holy God and mankind. He became the propitiation or payment for God’s wrath and brought about favor instead.
It is also a beautiful picture of His grace. It speaks specifically of the fact that He is angry at sin, yet turns His anger away in order to comfort us in our afflictions. His actions are evidence of His character and knowing how and why He works informs how we worship. It helps us give thanks for all He has done for us individually as well as proclaiming His salvation among the nations
He is so good to us! May we live our lives full of joy because of what He has done for us. May our lives be full of these expressions of joy as we sing, shout, and declare His goodness to those that we come in contact with.

Blessed Are the Longing
May 26th, 2025
I often find gaps in what I long for versus the situations actually dealt to me.My human heart frequently struggles to see disappointment, pain, or scarcity as blessings given by God for my good and His glory. Psalm 84 has been a balm to my soul during adulthood for every season but even more during the ‘not so blessed’ ones. The Psalmist longs to be able to go to the temple of the Lord, even ack...
Stay Ready
May 20th, 2025
One morning, the principal at the school where I teach received a text from a principal at a nearby school: the superintendent was in the area. Fearing a surprise visit, the administration quickly scrambled to get everything in order and make the school presentable for the guest of honor. Teachers were instructed to ensure students stayed off their phones and were actively engaged in collaborative...
Bearing False Witness is More Than We Think
May 13th, 2025
God is holy and he desires that his chosen race, his priesthood, his nation, and his people be holy too. This is the point of the book of Leviticus–“You shall be holy for I am holy” (Leviticus 11:44). God wants his people to be holy because God’s people are a revelatory people, meaning they exist to reveal God not only to each other as the people of God, but also to the people without God in the w...
Faith Over Fear
May 6th, 2025
If I am being honest, I am a fearful person. I do not live my day to day life overcome with fear but to say I am not afraid of anything would be a lie. Do I want to go swimming in a lake where I cannot see anything around me and a swamp monster could bite my toes off? Nope. When there is a thud in the middle of the night and my wife wants me to go check it out; would I rather hide under the covers...
Be Still and Know that I Am God (Let the Reader Read the Rest)
April 29th, 2025
“Aslan is on the move.” Upon their entrance through the wardrobe into the magical land of Narnia, this statement was repeated over and over to the 4 Pevensie Children. “Aslan is on the move.” To those who knew Aslan, this fact brought great comfort, excitement, and anticipation. But the Pevensies didn’t know Aslan. They didn’t know who or what he was, what he was like, if he was safe. “Who is Asla...
