He is so Good to Us
by Trent Brown

Reflecting on Isaiah 12 helps us, as God’s people, to rejoice in His salvation, preservation, and restoration. This beautiful snippet of Scripture is one of praise that centers on the goodness of God. We see that He is our salvation, our comforter, our strength, and our song. We also see that He dwells among us and does glorious deeds.
I am so thankful that the Lord is good to me. I am reminded daily of His goodness as He sees fit to comfort me in all of the chaos and confusion that often surrounds me. The words of an old Third Day song are on my lips this morning. The song simply says,
You are so good to me
You heal my broken heart
You are my Father in Heaven
You poured out all Your blood
You died upon the cross
You are my Jesus who loves me
You are beautiful my sweet, sweet song
You are beautiful my sweet, sweet song
You are beautiful my sweet, sweet song
And I will sing again
You are my strong melody
You are my dancing rhythm
You are my perfect rhyme
And I will sing of You forever
The fact that He dwells with us helps us to hold onto the beauty and goodness of who HE is. It speaks of His manifestation of Himself to His people by taking on flesh. Not only did He become man, He also rectified the obstacle of fellowship between a Holy God and mankind. He became the propitiation or payment for God’s wrath and brought about favor instead.
It is also a beautiful picture of His grace. It speaks specifically of the fact that He is angry at sin, yet turns His anger away in order to comfort us in our afflictions. His actions are evidence of His character and knowing how and why He works informs how we worship. It helps us give thanks for all He has done for us individually as well as proclaiming His salvation among the nations
He is so good to us! May we live our lives full of joy because of what He has done for us. May our lives be full of these expressions of joy as we sing, shout, and declare His goodness to those that we come in contact with.

A Taming of the Shrewd

A few years ago, during a week when I was preparing to preach Genesis 23, I found myself one day bartering for a cup of coffee at Starbucks. I wanted a half-caffeinated cup of coffee, but all they could give me was a half-caffeinated americano. Well…I was not about to pay that extra forty cents. So I started haggling. I asked if I could get an americano for the same price as a regular cup of coffe...

At the ripe age of 7, I was entrenched in the world of gymnastics. Having the ability to do the splits was the least impressive thing my little body could do at the time. I spent hours at the gym practicing routines and conditioning, and convincing my parents to buy (yet another) leotard with sparkles. The beam, however, was my personal nightmare. My coach would say, “If you are going to do someth...

“And now that you don't have to be perfect, you can be good.”― John Steinbeck, East of EdenTwo years ago, I went through a divorce. I felt so lonely. Going to church felt like I was walking around with a giant “D” hanging over my head and those who came in contact with me would catch the horrific disease of “divorce”. In perspective, that was further from the truth and there were many people, espe...

A Challenge for Parents this Christmas
December 22nd, 2025
I came across this poem and wanted to share it:We're 30.It's December. And he asks me what I wantfor Christmas this year.I laugh and say...Oh, I don't know.Sleep.Silence.Sanity?He half smiles, because we both knowI can't have that. We're 80 now. It's December. And he asks me what I wantfor Christmas this year.I look at the tree, filled with handmade ornaments, now decades old. They hang quietly,untouched....
