Contestant Number One

Contestant Number One

by John Rogers

Remember those dating shows where the contestant had three choices on who he would go on a date with? There would be a wall between the contestant and the potential dates and all he had to go on was the sound of their voices, their answers to his questions, and the original descriptions given by the host.

Well in Proverbs 9, we have a young man with two ladies behind the wall. He can date either of them and they are both single and ready to mingle. But listen to the descriptions of both women and see which one you would choose:

Contestant number one—Wisdom lives in a beautiful house. She frequently likes to prepare feasts, loves a well set table, and good wine. She has many friends and has a real knack for hospitality. Turn into her house and you’re sure to have an abundant life!

Contestant number two—Folly is loud. She’s a seducer of many men and knows nothing. She’s doesn’t have any friends and she loves to spend her time sitting at the door of her house yelling at people to come on in. She’s a theif and her house is full of dead men’s bones. Take her on a date and it’s sure to be your last.

So put like this, which one would you choose? Wisdom or folly? Your pick.
