Orient Yourself Every Morning

Orient Yourself Every Morning

by John Rogers

Byrd continues, “Another Hebrew word for ‘east,’ mizrach...refers to ‘sunrise,’ [or] ‘east.’ Now put this together: to truly orient ourselves, we face eastward, to the rising of the sun [and when we do this] it orients us toward the God who removes our transgressions ‘as far as the east is from the west.”

Dietrich Bonhoeffer says, "At the break of light (or when the sun rises in the east) [the church is to remember] the morning on which death, the devil, and sin were brought low in defeat, and new life and salvation were given to human beings” when Christ Jesus, the Son of Righteousness rose from the earth for our justification before God (see Romans 4:25).

The Son has risen! Therefore, let us celebrate each new day and our new, eternal life in Christ by orienting our hearts to the east, to the risen Son Jesus, the Lamb of God, who has taken away your sin and has removed it as far as the east is from the west (see Psalm 103:8-12).
